Series Summary
Christmas will be here before we know it, and at Parkview this month, we’re going to take a look at some of the different aspects of the gift that God gave to us in Christ. If you have been a Christian for any length of time, you have probably already learned that Christ is a gift of hope and peace, of redemption and restoration. So we’re calling this Christmas series Rediscovering Christmas: The Gift That Changed The World. Because we all need to be reminded of these things. We all need to rediscover what Christmas is all about.
During a busy season, we need to take the time, slow down, and remember the gift that Jesus is for us. A gift for those who are hopeless, or feel forgotten. A gift for those who feel lonely or abandoned. A gift of redemption and restoration. A gift that was God's plan all along.
We hope you'll join us this month as we seek to rediscover the gift of Christmas, and how it can transform our lives today.
Sermon Summary
Christmas is often a time when we feel the loneliest. In a season of activity, it's common for us to feel like we are on our own, with no one to lean on, no support. Mary and Joseph certainly felt that way. When the angel announced to them that Jesus was coming, and that they were to be his parents, they must have felt completely alone and isolated. Who could they turn to with such news?
The gift we have in Christ is a gift for the lonely. Often, we see being alone as a curse. But God frequently uses that period of time to prepare us for something significant. Just think... Mary and Joseph felt all alone, but God was preparing to send the Savior! When we feel alone, that's often the time when God draws most near.
Jesus is truly a gift... for the lonely.
