Series Summary

When Jesus walked this earth, he revealed to us what God is like in a variety of ways: through his teaching, through his character, and through his miracles. These incredible signs and wonders show us the nature and the heart of God.

But what is a miracle? A miracle is an extraordinary event of God intervening in his creation. A miracle is an act of God coming to us. And God uses these miracles to reveal Himself to us.

Throughout this series, we will examine several of the different miracles that Jesus performed, setting aside the natural order of things to accomplish something spectacular. Since we spent a significant amount of time in John last year, we will focus more intently on the miracles that Mathew, Mark, and Luke describe. And through all of these events, our hope is that you are able to see God more clearly through the activities of Jesus.

Sermon Summary

Immediately after Jesus fed the 5000, he headed up onto the mountain to pray while the disciples started across the Sea of Galilee. Later, in the middle of the night, the disciples witness him walking on top of the water. Matthew records that Peter called out to Jesus, asking if he could join him. Jesus calls Peter out of the boat, and for a moment, he, too, walks on the water.

This miracle teaches us a few things about Jesus: that he has power over nature, and that power is incredible and frightening all at the same time. But this also teaches us something about ourselves. We need to have the faith that Peter had, first, to step out of the boat, and second, to turn his eyes to Jesus and call out to him when he started to sink.

Through it all, we can trust him to get us through any storms we may be facing, and we might just get to be a part of something extraordinary in the process!
