As we study a selection of different psalms this summer, we’ll learn to trust him more deeply, worship him more fully, and find lasting hope in his presence, one psalm at a time.
Sermon Summary
It’s easy to let life’s pressures crowd out our gratitude. Deadlines, disappointments, and distractions have a way of becoming louder than God’s faithfulness. That’s why David begins Psalm 103 by speaking to his own soul: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” Worship doesn’t begin because everything is perfect; it begins when we intentionally remember who God is and what he has done. David reminds himself not to “forget all his benefits”, then lists them one by one — God forgives, heals, redeems, crowns, satisfies, and renews. Gratitude grows when we stop long enough to remember.
The heart of this psalm is not simply the gifts God gives but the God who gives them. David celebrates the Lord’s compassion, patience, steadfast love, and mercy. He marvels that God removes our sins “as far as the east is from the west” and loves his children with the tenderness of a perfect Father. When we remember God’s character, our perspective begins to change. Our circumstances may not immediately improve, but our hearts do. This week, take a few moments each day to remember God’s goodness. Make your own list of his faithfulness. As you do, you’ll discover that gratitude isn’t just a response to blessing — it becomes the pathway to deeper worship.
