Series Summary
Our mission as Christians is to “Go and make disciples…” Our job is create disciple-making disciples. But often, we don’t know just how to do that. Many Christians are hesitant to share with others because they just don’t understand the Gospel message all that well. Others are newer believers, and may still be learning. Either way, we need to make sure we have a solid grasp on the fundamental elements of our faith. We need to be able to comprehend these well enough to explain them clearly to others who may ask why we believe. So it’s worth taking to time to reexamine some basics.
In this sermon series, we take a look at five elements that comprise the salvation process. Each of these are necessary ingredients, and all of them work together to help us experience the saving grace that God wants to extend to mankind. The elements are faith, confession, repentance, baptism, and new life.
As we study each of these elements, our prayer is that you experience a deeper understanding of the offer God has extended to us, that you perceive his grace more fully, and that you come to know his love for you more intimately. Join us as we take a look at the elements of our faith.
Sermon Summary
The next element that we need to look at is the element of repentance. When we come to Christ, it requires a complete change in trajectory, moving away from the direction we were headed in order to head straight toward Jesus. This is critically important for our spiritual growth, because it shows our change of heart. But it also makes perfect sense, because if we hade made Jesus Lord of our life, why wouldn’t we want to change?
Repentance is the change we need to make. It’s deeper than just our actions; it’s established at the heart level, at the most foundational part of our motives. And it helps lead us towards salvation.
