Series Summary

This summer, slow down and rediscover the songs that have strengthened God’s people for generations. Summer in the Psalms is a journey through the highs and lows of faith—from joy and worship to fear, doubt, repentance, and renewed hope. Whether you’re celebrating God’s goodness, walking through a difficult season, or simply longing to grow closer to him, the Psalms remind us that we can bring every part of our lives to God. As we study a selection of different psalms this summer, we’ll learn to trust him more deeply, worship him more fully, and find lasting hope in his presence, one psalm at a time.

Sermon Summary

Psalm 46 meets us in the middle of the mess. The psalmist doesn’t pretend that life is always peaceful. The earth gives way, mountains tremble, nations rage, and kingdoms totter. Yet right in the middle of all that chaos comes this declaration: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Our confidence isn’t found in having calm circumstances; it’s found in having a God who remains faithful when our circumstances are anything but calm. We may not be able to control what is happening around us, but we can remember who is with us in the middle of it.

That’s why God’s invitation in verse 10 is so powerful: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Stillness isn’t pretending our problems don’t exist. It’s surrendering our need to control everything and remembering that God is God — and we are not. When the world feels unstable, we can stop striving, take a deep breath, and place our confidence in the One who does not move. The greatest evidence that God is with us is found in Jesus, who entered our broken world, carried our sin to the cross, and conquered death through his resurrection. Whatever chaos you may be facing today, you don’t face it alone. The God of Jacob is still our fortress.
